The first iPad had a lot of skeptics; people believed that their laptops covered the same bases more than adequately. Very rapidly, however, the abilities of the iPad became better understood. Unfortunately, the most self-evident negative for this product is the company itself — Dell. Quality and reliability are not trademarks of Dell’s past offerings. And as for customer service: well, let’s simply say if it owned a prize closet, it would not be overloaded with consumer awards. A lot of customers have shared that when they made service calls after the warranty expiry date, they were billed. Buying a product from this company might have future implications – and not just cost – which may well outweigh the immediate savings from it being a relatively cheap purchase.
The tablet has the Android OS (this version is affectionately named Froyo), which means that it should allow you to multitask between various applications fairly easily. It’s not a requirement to keep particular programs “live” in order to receive messages from the system’s notification service, while at the same time listening to MP3s and keeping ypur GPS data updated. There are no worries about being unreachable with this Dell tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are possible.
Video chat was not included with the original iPad offering, and it’s fantastic that it is with this Dell tablet. This tablet, employing Qik software and a front-facing panel cam, lets you video chat. But oh dear, yes, there is a caveat: someone with the same Streak 7 tablet, or something compatible, presents no problem – otherwise, incommunicado you will remain. This means that the video chat function is not universal in its application. The built-in On Demand service offered by Blockbuster is a decided plus for the Dell Streak 7 tablet. We’re not so certain that this is a terrific feature, after all, because of the troubles Blockbuster has had lately.
Reviews right now are few and far between, but it does seem that people are leery as to the reasons why this product was createdd. It isn’t a universal device – it can’t communicate between non Streak-compatible devices so its functionality is basically limited. Nonetheless, a strong desire for a tablet computer coupled with a small budget might make this Dell tablet an ideal way to familiarize yourself with the technology.
