Discovering The Importance of Basement Sump and Pump

Basement sump and pump is a very essential part of the house. People who live in wet areas, or whose houses tend to be flooded during excessive storms benefit the most with a basement sump and pump.  Without it, your damp basement are likely to suffer from basement mold and mildew which are results of water seepage. The sad thing about a damp basement or basement leaks, other than the fact that it can get cold and drafty, it can also develop molds which can be detrimental to the health of your family.
A sump pump is basically used to remove water that has accumulated in a certain pit. In a house, the basement is where it is most commonly found. It acts a reservoir that is meant to fill each time groundwater level rises. A basement sump and pump excretes water away from the house to a certain place wherein it will not cause problems and inconvenience.
Sump pumps are run by electricity. There are those that are battery operated and there are brands that make use of your pressurized home water pressure to operate. Some sump pit may have the tendency to overflow if not constantly pumped. Therefore a back-up system is important especially when the main power is out.
There are two types of sump pumps; the pedestal pump, which is mounted on the pit where it is easily noticeable and reached and the other type, is the submersible, which is wholly mounted inside the pit and sealed to prevent short circuits.
In order to maintain the longevity of your basement sump and pump, make sure that it is properly maintained. Sump pumps that are more frequently used should be examined more frequently. If properly maintained, it may extend the life of the pump and spare you from the costly price of repairs.
