Olympic bumper plates are key to a successful and productive weight training routine. There are a number of reasons why owning a barbell and some plates are necessary. A person could be training for a sport, to increase their explosive power, or their strength to weight ratio. Someone could be competing in a lifting competition, whether it is strongman, crossfit, or an actual Olympic weightlifting competition. Whatever your goal is, you have to own a barbell and some bumper plates. They are key to being successful in any weightlifting routine.
Often times, people will be training with only metal plates, which is a mistake. These metal plates can’t be tossed down like bumper plates can be tossed down. If you have to be worried about weights crashing down, you won’t use weights that really push the upper limits of what you are capable of lifting. If you don’t lift weights that really push you, you won’t be using your time in the most efficient way possible. You really want to make sure you train at a gym that has bumper plates, or you go out and purchase a set yourself. They aren’t that expensive, but make sure you stick with quality plates. The last thing you want to do is buy a set of cheap ones, and see them break a few months down the road. Be aware that when it comes to weightlifting equipment, you have to consider it an investment that you can probably get some cash back way down the road. If you don’t want to sell them after awhile, you can always donate them to a local gym, school, or give them to your kids.
If you are smart, and you do own a handful of quality Olympic bumper plates, then you will need a barbell to throw those on. When it comes to plates and barbells, don’t be cheap! These pieces of equipment can last a lifetime if you take care of them and buy quality. The last thing you want to do, is load up a bar with a few hundred pounds and watch it permanently bend. A good quality Olympic bar will run you at least one hundred and fifty dollars. However, if you want a bar that will out live you, then plan on spending three hundred to five hundred dollars. There are bars out there for a thousand dollars, so spending three hundred on a bar that will last a lifetime, isn’t so bad. If you stop lifting in ten years, you’ll be able to sell a four hundred dollar bar for probably close to one hundred dollars.
With all this in mind, go out and purchase some quality Olympic bumper plates and a quality barbell. Good luck with your training and may you reach all the goals you hope to achieve!
